A thickener is essentially a large tank in which particles are permitted to settle, in this manner creating a clean flood and a thickened sub-current. Thickeners have a mechanically permanent working process based on the sedimentation of solid particles to the bottom of the tank and the bottom water overflow with particles leaving the tank.
Thickeners have many benefits that can vary according to the user and industry that is needed in. For example, thickeners can be used in plants where water supply is short and highly expensive; in this case a thickener can give reusable water back to the plant. They can also be used to decrease the settling size of puddles and waste product of facilities. Also when they are combined with other downstream equipment like filter presses, they can eliminate settling puddles all. Also they can be used for the purification of plant waters from minerals and fines.
